Softball Splits with 'Cats

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team earned its second straight ODAC doubleheader split Friday by splitting two games with Randolph.

Shenandoah (7-17, 5-9 ODAC) saw Randolph rally for a 7-6 win in the opener before the Hornets took game two 5-4.

SU held a 6-2 lead on the WildCats (12-14, 5-9) in game one only to see Randolph storm back with three runs in the fifth and then two in the seventh to steal the victory over the Hornets.

In game two, Shenandoah scored one run in the first, and after the 'Cats scored two in the second, SU took the lead with three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Randolph threatened in the seventh with two runs and had the tying run in scoring position, but winning pitcher Lisa Mitro (4-5) induced two groundouts to secure the victory.

Mitro earned the complete game win by allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks.

Madison Bradley drove in Cassie Green with the game-winning run on a two-out single to left in the sixth.

Green reached on an error.

Mitro helped herself with two hits and two RBI in four at-bats. She drove in the first run with a single down the left field line in the first and added an RBI single in the fifth.

Coach Marlena Kotynski's club took that 6-2 lead in game one thanks to two runs in the first, one in the second and three in the fourth.

Karli Rorabaugh had a two-run single in the fourth with Kimberly Brady and Madison Bradley and Kimberly Brady driving in runs in the first and second innings, respectively.

Megan Vanderburgh had two hits in the losing effort.

Lindsay Corbin (1-7) was the hard luck loser – all seven of the runs she allowed were unearned as the Hornets committed three errors.

Corbin gave up seven hits and four walks against one strikeout in the complete game showing.

Shenandoah steps out-of-conference on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. home doubleheader against Catholic.
