Volleyball Rallies Past Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team opened up its ODAC slate Friday evening with a 3-2 victory at Lynchburg.

The win gives SU (6-4, 1-0 ODAC) a win in its conference opener for the second straight year.

After winning the opening set at 23, Shenandoah saw Lynchburg (4-7, 1-1) win sets two and three and 21 and 23, respectively, to bring itself to the brink of victory.

SU responded, however, winning at 20 in the fourth to set up a winner-take-all fifth set.

Shenandoah led throughout the fifth, winning 15-9, to post its second victory over its fellow Hornets in the past three seasons of league play.

Senior Blake Parkes led the victors with 12 kills while Rachel Roberts added nine and both Allie Pieper and Kaitlyn Kelley eight each.

Jasmine Callahan, playing in front of her hometown fans, had 21 assists with Rachel Cerretani adding 24.

Roberts' final kill was the match-clincher. That ninth kill was off a Callahan assist.

Brandi Griffith and Anna Gallup had 16 and 10 digs, respectively, to lead the defensive effort.

Coach Jaime Terenzi's club stays in the Hill City to play Randolph Saturday afternoon in a 1 p.m. ODAC match.
