Men's Soccer Outlasts Panthers

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's soccer team extended their winning streak to three matches Saturday afternoon thanks to a 3-2 non-league victory over Ferrum.

The two teams combined for three goals in the opening 10:29 of the contest with SU (2-0) bookending one Ferrum (0-2) tally.

Brian Maye put the Hornets up to stay after taking a long ball just outside the box, dribbling past one defender and lofting his shot over Panthers starting keeper Derek Thomas.

Cody White fed Maye 20 minutes later for what proved to be the game-winner.

Nate Long had the opening goal of the game, cleaning up a corner kick just 2:30 into the game.

Ferrum got itself back into the contest with an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute, and appeared to tie it with 10 minutes to go, but the would-be equalizer was nullified due to offsides.

Matthew Poell had four saves for the Hornets in posting his second victory of the season.

SU has now won three straight dating back to a 2-0 victory over Randolph-Macon in the 2014 season finale.

This is the squad's longest winning streak since winning three straight to end the 2008 season.

Shenandoah is back in action on Wednesday with a 5 p.m. non-league home game against Hood.
