Women Fall at Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Host Lynchburg College had a strong start on its way to a 67-34 ODAC women's basketball victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

Lynchburg (15-4, 8-2 ODAC) outscored SU (5-14, 2-8) by 16 points in the first quarter and 11 points in the second to take a commanding, 39-12, lead at the halftime break.

LC opened the game by scoring 20 of the game's inital 22 points; Kanesha Foster had the lone bucket for SU with a jumper at 5:56.

Sophomore Kirstyn Arcata and Foster sandwiched a 3-pointer and a jumper, respectively, around a pair of Lynchburg free throws to start the second period only to see the hosts reel off an 11-0 run to extend the lead to 33-9 with 2:45 to play in the half.

Junior Olivia Callan stopped this run with her 3-pointer at 2:18 before LC scored final six points of the stanza.

The second half was much more even, with Lynchburg only outscoring Shenandoah by two points in the third and four in the fourth.

Foster had a co-game-high 12 points with Callan adding eight and Arcata six.

Erin French paced the visitors on the boards with six.

Caroline Naumann had 12 points and Chaney Forbush 11 for the victors.

Shenandoah is back in action at home on Tuesday in a 7 p.m. ODAC contest versus Randolph-Macon.
