WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey team kept its hopes alive for a home ODAC Tournament contest with a 3-1 ODAC victory over Bridgewater College Wednesday afternoon.
The Hornets (9-8, 4-3 ODAC) two-goal victory snapped a string of eight straight one-goal contests between SU and Bridgewater (10-6, 5-2).
The win is just the second ever for Shenandoah over the Eagles in field hockey.
Junior Melissa DeiTos scored the opening two goals of the game, tallying off a Taylor Hayes cross in the 17th minute and then unassisted in the 30th.
After BC scored off of a penalty corner just 1:48 into the second half, Shenandoah put the game away with a Morgan Payne goal at 44:50.
Payne tallied after SU was awarded its only penalty corner of the second half and she converted a Megan Stevens assist.
Shenandoah outshot the Eagles 11-8, including 8-2 in the first half, with BC holding a 4-3 advantage in corners.
Jessica Brown had four saves, all in the second half, to earn the win.
SU completes its regular season on Saturday at Virginia Wesleyan.
