WINCHESTER, Va. – In a series that has been punctuated by close games, Wednesday night was no different.

Visiting Bridgewater College scored the game's lone goal with 38 seconds remaining to down Shenandoah University 1-0 in ODAC women's soccer action on the Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium turf.

Isabella Weigel scored that goal, knocking home a rebound of her own shot to give the Eagles the one-goal victory.

Weigel's goal, which was actually her third shot in flurry that saw Shenandoah goalkeeper Erin Septer make a sliding foot save and defender Michelle Krause deflect the second shot, tightened up the all-time series between the two teams even closer.

In 14 lifetime meetings, the all-time series is now 5-5-4 and eight of the past nine contests have been decided by no more than one goal.

The lone goal happened as Bridgewater (13-3-1, 6-2-1 ODAC) quickly began a counterattack following an SU (13-5, 7-2) advancement into the Eagles box.

Following a series of passes, Weigel found herself free 40 yards from goal, and dribbled toward the Hornets goal where Septer left her line in an attempt to cut down Weigel's angle.

Septer made a sliding foot save, but the ball rebounded to Weigel, who hit second shot to Septer's right.

Krause, looping back on the play, was able to deflect this shot out, where Weigel was again able to corral the ball and this time punched it past both Septer and Krause into the right corner of the net.

The goal ended a contest in which Shenandoah took 13 of the game's 22 shots and four of the six corners.

Septer had five saves to three for the Eagles Hayley Talbott.

"Disappointing end to a great game and a great senior night," SU head coach Liz Pike said. "I want to give a shout out to the seniors. They all played great tonight."

Shenandoah completes its regular season on Saturday with an ODAC contest at Virginia Wesleyan.
