Softball Opens with Sweep

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Shenandoah University softball team opened up its 2016 season Saturday by sweeping a non-league doubleheader from Southern Virginia.

Playing at Salem College, the Hornets (2-0) opened up with 11-2 and 11-0 victories over SVU (0-2).

Junior Lindsay Corbin (1-0) got the win in game one, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out four in 6.0 innings of work.

Kayla O'Connell pitched a scoreless seventh to close out the victory.

Senior Kimberly Brady paced the SU offense with a 3 for 5 contest that included four RBI and grand slam home run in the seventh.

Corbin helped herself out with two hits with Karli Rorabaugh adding two hits and two RBI in four at-bats.

The 11-0 game two victory was halted after five innings due to the NCAA mercy rule.

Shenandoah had seven hits in the game and benefited from 11 walks issued by Knights pitcher Rachael Moore.

Freshman Carrie Robinson (1-0) earned the win in the circle, as she allowed two hits and one walk against three strikeouts in four innings.

Courtney Topper recorded the final three outs.

Ashlyn Drake and Haley Koeninger both drove in a pair of runs.

SU completes the weekend trip with a Sunday doubleheader versus Salem College.
