Women's Hoops Season Ends

ASHLAND, Va. - The Shenandoah women's basketball team fell, 78-53, on Monday night in the first round of the ODAC tournament at Randolph-Macon to put an end to its 2015-16 season.

Coming off a late win at Randolph College on Saturday, the 10th seeded Hornets (7-19) entered Monday's contest ready to complete an upset and return to the Salem Civic Center for the third time in four seasons on ODAC play. SU traded baskets with the Yellow Jackets (13-12) throughout the first quarter and trailed just 16-12 heading into the second.

The second period mimicked the first, but Shenandoah looked like the more confident team. SU found offensive success from Kanesha FosterErin French and Olivia Callan to help itself to a narrow, 29-28, halftime edge.

But in any sport, halftime adjustments can be the difference maker.

Shenandoah scored just eight points in the third quarter, while Randolph-Macon got hot and drained 26. Katie Anderson cemented herself under the basket for Macon, and SU struggled to find an answer.

While the fourth period was better for Shenandoah, the deficit was too much to overcome.

French led the Hornets with 17 points with Kirstyn Arcata adding 10.

Anderson had 29 points in 36 minutes for the victors.
