Wasps Eliminate Men's Hoops

EMORY, Va. – Fifth-seeded Emory and Henry led virtually throughout in a 101-54 ODAC Tournament first round victory over No. 12 Shenandoah Tuesday evening.

Shenandoah (6-20) scored the opening point of the contest, a Malcolm Clark free throw three seconds into the game, but it was all Wasps (15-11) over the final 39:57.

E&H scored its first bucket on a Myles Turner 3-pointer at 19:11 and quickly ran its advantage out to 10 points by the 14:39 mark.

The lead ballooned to 20 with 5:39 to play in the first, and thanks to a Clif Conley 3-pointer six seconds before halftime, reached 24 as the two teams headed into the break.

The second half brought more of the same with the Wasps advantage extended to 48 before Dalon McHugh made one of two from the line with three seconds left to provide the final margin of victory.

Emory and Henry shot 53 percent from the field to 40 percent for the Hornets and had seven players score in double figures.

The hosts also had a 51-26 advantage on the glass.

Clark had 12 points for Shenandoah.

The win sends E&H into the tournament quarterfinals on Friday versus fourth-seeded Guilford.

The loss completes the Hornets season. SU will announce its 2016-17 schedule this summer.
