WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University softball team opened up its 2016 home slate Sunday by dropping a non-league doubleheader to Gettysburg.
Gettysburg (3-1) was an 8-0 victor in game one before taking game two 6-2 over the Hornets (3-3).
GC held Shenandoah to three hits in the opener with Kimberly Brady, Lindsay Corbin and Karli Rorabaugh all getting one each.
Corbin's hit was a triple. She also took the loss in the circle, allowing seven runs on six hits and four walks in 4.0 innings of work.
Corbin (1-2) struck out two.
SU struck first in the nightcap, scoring one in its first at-bat, but the Bullets scored twice in both the second and third to pull away.
Brady, Rorabaugh, Megan Vanderburgh, Haley Koeninger and Breanne Smith all had one hit in game two.
Carrie Robinson (1-1) took the loss. She gave up four runs on eight hits and one walk in 3.9 innings.
Courtney Topper pitched the final four innings and allowed two runs on five hits.
Robinson had two strikeouts and Topper one.
SU will head to Virginia Beach to compete in the VWC Beach Blast this weekend. The Hornets' first game will be on Friday against Rutgers-Camden.
