Softball Splits with Macon

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University softball team recorded its second straight ODAC doubleheader split Friday, winning game one and dropping the nightcap versus Randolph-Macon.

Shenandoah (8-10, 2-2 ODAC) was a 10-8 victor in the opener before Macon (16-7, 1-2) answered with an 8-0 victory in the nightcap.

SU chased Macon starter Nelda Bagley with a seven-run second to key the victory over the 'Jackets in game one.

Bagley (3-1) allowed eight runs on seven hits and one walk in 1 1/3 innings before turning it over to Maddie Holcomb nine batters into the second.

Shenandoah sent 12 women to the plate in the frame with Haley Koeninger and Kimberly Brady both driving in two runs and Ashlyn Drake, Lindsay Corbin and Megan Wilk one run each.

Corbin (3-5) went the distance in the circle, allowing eight runs (five earned) on nine hits and three walks.

Corbin struck out five.

Brady finished the contest 4 for 5 with three RBI with Koeninger and Wilk getting two hits each.

SU was held to just one hit in the nightcap, a first inning single from Karli Rorabaugh, as the 'Jackets salvaged the sweep.

Macon pitcher Candace Whittemore (9-2) struck out nine in the five-inning complete game performance.

Carrie Robinson (5-5) allowed seven runs on 10 hits and one walk to take the loss for the hosts.

Shenandoah takes to the road Wednesday for a 3 p.m. ODAC doubleheader at Eastern Mennonite.
