NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Shenandoah University softball team completed its weekend road trip by dropping a non-league doubleheader at No. 2 Christopher Newport University Sunday afternoon.
The Captains (10-0) were 8-0 victors in game one before completing the sweep over SU (5-5) with a 9-1 win in the nightcap.
Both games were halted after five innings.
Shenandoah was held to three hits in the opener as Kimberly Brady, Karli Rorabaugh and Melissa Brooks all reach via singles.
Junior Lindsay Corbin (2-3) pitched the first two innings and took the loss after giving up two runs on four hits. Courtney Topper pitched the final 2 2/3 innings and allowed six runs on seven hits and two walks.
Brady was the story offensively in game two with a home run and a double in three at-bats. The senior led off the game with a solo dinger to right and had a double down the right field line in the fifth.
Corbin, Kristen Weadon and Megan Vanderburgh had the Hornets other hits.
Freshman Carrie Robinson (2-2) took the loss. She allowed six runs (five earned) on three hits and two walks in one inning of work.
Kayla O'Connell pitched the final three innings and all three runs she allowed were unearned.
