GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College scratched out a pair of close victories over visiting Shenandoah in ODAC softball action Saturday afternoon.
Guilford (19-7, 4-4 ODAC) was a 6-5 victor in the opener before taking game two over the Hornets (8-14, 2-6) 3-1.
In game one, Guilford rallied from a 5-4 deficit with two runs in the seventh to escape with a 6-5 win.
Shenandoah trailed 4-1 heading into the sixth before posting three runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to take that 5-4 lead.
Sophomore Melissa Brooks had that seventh inning RBI with two-out bases loaded single up the middle to score Lindsay Corbin from third.
The Hornets other four runs all came via the long ball. Senior Kimberly Brady had solo home runs in the first and sixth while sophomore Kristen Weadon had a two-run shot in the sixth.
Corbin (3-7) took the loss after allowing six runs on 13 hits and three walks in 6 2/3 innings. She struck out four.
The Quakers held SU to two hits in the nightcap, sixth inning singles from Megan Wilk and Kimberly Brady, while getting seven of their own in the 3-1 victory.
Carrie Robinson (4-7) gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and four walks to be charged with the loss.
Shenandoah steps out of conference on Wednesday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Frostburg State.
