WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team completed its non-conference schedule Wednesday afternoon by dropping a doubleheader to No. 16 Messiah College.
The Falcons (28-3) won game one, 11-0, before squeaking out a 3-1 victory over SU (8-26) in the nightcap.
Lindsay Corbin knotted game two at 1-1 with an RBI triple to left in the third only to see Messiah score one in the fourth and another in the seventh to complete the sweep.
SU outhit the Falcons, 5-3, in game two as Corbin (3-13) had a solid outing in the circle. One of the three runs she allowed was unearned and she did not give up an extra base hit in the contest.
In game one, MC scored seven runs in the third inning to break the game open and added two more in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Kimberly Brady and Breanne Smith, the top of the Hornets lineup, each had two hits in three at-bats.
Courtney Topper (1-1) took the loss after allowing eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits in 3.0 innings. Kayla O'Connell pitched the fourth and fifth to wrap up the contest.
Brady and Smith both had hits in game one as well.
