EMORY, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team completed the away portion of its schedule Saturday by being swept in an ODAC doubleheader at Emory and Henry.
E&H (15-25, 7-11 ODAC) was a 9-7 victor in the opener before taking game two, 11-3, over the Hornets (8-28, 2-14).
The two losses also eliminate Shenandoah from ODAC Tournament consideration. SU will now complete its season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. ODAC doubleheader versus Randolph. Coach Marlena Kotynski's club will also be holding a fundraiser for the Amanda C. Brady Foundation for Youth during the double-dip.
In game one, the Wasps scored four runs in the third to break open a tie game and then had to hold off Shenandoah as the Hornets scored three runs in the seventh to get within two runs.
Senior Kimberly Brady led an 11-hit SU attack with a 3 for 4 contest that included a pair of solo home runs. Her second dinger, in the seventh, was her 10th of the season and breaks the school record previously held by Jolisa Jones '11.
Lindsay Corbin (3-14) went the distance, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 13 hits.
E&H jumped all over game two starter Carrie Robinson (4-13) to take a 9-0 lead after two innings. The freshman ended up allowing seven runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings; she pitched to the first nine batters of the game, gave way to classmate Courtney Topper and then returned at the start of the third.
Shenandoah was held to five hits in the nightcap with Karli Rohrbaugh driving in a run with her third inning single to center.
