WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 9/10 Shenandoah University celebrated its Senior Day with a 9-1 non-league baseball victory over Gallaudet Sunday afternoon.
Shenandoah (19-6) scored three runs in the fourth and an additional five in the seventh to pull away from the Bison (5-21).
Senior Eric Liskey (1-0), making his first start of the season, got his third career victory by only allowing one unearned run on eight hits in 7.0 innings of work.
Liskey turned it over to classmates Patrick Staul and Ricky Zambrano for the eighth and ninth, respectively.
In the five-run fifth, the Hornets scored the five runs on three hits and two crucial Gallaudet errors. The first, a fielding error by Bison starter Albert Blake (2-1), allowed SU to load the bases with no outs.
The second, by right fielder Kyle Gumm, cleared the bases on Nate Loman's single. Senior Lew Johnson, who had plated the victors first run of the game in the second, drove in Loman with a single to left with what turned out to be the final run of the contest.
Johnson led Shenandoah with three hits in four at-bats with Loman and Zach Herbaugh both posting two hits.
Shenandoah is back in action on Tuesday at 4:00 in an ODAC contest at Washington and Lee.
