Lynchburg Outlasts Women's Lax

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Host Lynchburg College rallied from a pair of three-goal deficits to defeat Shenandoah University 9-8 in ODAC women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (5-12, 3-6 ODAC) led 5-2 and 6-3 over Lynchburg (11-5, 7-2) only to see LC put forth a second half rally.

Trailing 6-3 after Jackie Hemler scored unassisted for SU with 1:57 to play in the first, Lynchburg scored the game's next four goals to take a 7-6 lead with 20:04 remaining.

Senior Miranda Rudacille, playing in her final game in a Shenandoah uniform, scored unassisted at 15:52 to tie it for coach Lindsey Lutz' squad.

Unfortunately for the SU faithful, Lynchburg answered back.

LC scored at 13:24 and 9:32 to go on top to stay and then held off a furious SU comeback.

Rudacille set up Annie McCorry at 6:18 to cut the deficit to one, 9-8, before being awarded a free position attempt with 1:57 to play.

Taking the try just inside the 8-meter arc, Rudacille dodged a defender only to see Lynchburg goalkeeper Treva Tyson make a stick save to preserve the outcome for the hosts.

LC then successfully cleared the ball to close out the contest.

Lynchburg had a 17-16 advantage in shots and won 11 of 19 draws while Shenandoah scooped up 14 of the game's 25 groundballs.

Brittany Bain had four saves and Rachel Levy three for SU. Bain played the initial 30 minutes with Levy coming on following the halftime break.

Shenandoah will announce its 2017 schedule in August.
