WASHINGTON, D.C. - Shenandoah University kicked off its 2016 football slate with a 43-6 non-league victory over Gallaudet University Saturday night before 1115 fans at Hotchkiss Field on the Gallaudet campus.

Shenandoah (1-0) got all of the offense it would need at the 9:08 mark of the first quarter when sophomore quarterback Hayden Bauserman hit senior Cedrick Delaney with a 28-yard touchdown pass.

The TD strike was one of four on the night for Bauserman, who also hit Michael Ashwell for 4 yards, Justin Ayres for 15 and Leonard Scott for 32.

In between, Delaney and Jalen Hudson had touchdown runs of 33 and 3 yards, respectively.

Ashwell and Ayers had their two touchdowns in the second quarter. In that stanza, SU combined though two TDs along with a safety to turn a 7-0 game into a 22-0 halftime lead.

Delaney's TD run came on the Hornets first offensive play of the second half; Gallaudet (0-1) fumbled the second half kick with SU recovering on the Bison 33.

His TD made the score 29-0 and effectively ended the contest. Delaney finished the night with 10 carries for 111 yards and the one rushing touchdown.

Bauserman was 17 for 29 for 194 yards and the four touchdowns against one interception. Like Delaney, he sat the entire fourth quarter.

The Hornets rolled up 438 yards in total offense and held Gallaudet to 146.

Defensively, senior Cody Miller had a game-high eight tackles in his first-ever start. Classmate Jake Shaffer set up the Ayres touchdown by returning a Timel Benton INT 57-yards to the GU 15.

Two plays later, Ayres had his first-ever collegiate TD.

Shenandoah opens up its home slate next Saturday night with a 7 p.m. non-league game against longtime rival Ferrum.
