Volleyball Falls Twice

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team wrapped up Virginia Wesleyan Tournament play Saturday afternoon on Donald M. Forsyth Court at the Batten Center by dropping a pair of matchups.

In the opening match of the day, the Hornets (1-4) were swept 3-0 by the tournament hosts, Virginia Wesleyan College.

VWC won at 20, 19, and 16 on its home court.

Elizabeth Lamont led Shenandoah's offensive attack with eight kills. Kaitlyn Kelley added six and Caylin Harris contributed an additional five.

Jasmine Callahan assisted on 12 of the Hornets' kills, while Rachel Cerretani had 10 assists of her own.

SU fell to St. Mary's of Maryland 3-1 in the noon matchup to complete tournament play.

The Seahawks took sets one and two with scores of 25-19 and 25-13. The Hornets battled back to take the third set, 25-21, before St. Mary's clinched the match with a 25-15 victory in the fourth.

Harris and Kelley led the Hornets' offensive attack in the second match of the day with nine kills apiece. Lamont and Emily Cheatwood both added seven more for SU.

Cerretani and Callahan, again, orchestrated the offense with 14 and 13 assists, respectively.

The Hornets are back in action next Friday as they travel to Washington, D.C. to compete in the Catholic University of America Tournament.
