WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Randolph-Macon used a powerful running game to key a 24-19 ODAC football victory before 953 soggy Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium fans Friday evening.

The Yellow Jackets (4-0, 1-0 ODAC) ran for 264 yards on 60 carries and possessed the ball for 36:58 to down Shenandoah (2-2, 0-1) for the eighth time in the all-time series between the two schools.

The 'Jackets opened the evening's scoring on a Joseph Vairo to Willie Schaub six-yard TD pass at 7:58 of the second, but quickly found the game tied.

SU needed just two plays, the first an incomplete pass and the second a 34-yard Hayden Bauserman to Michael Ashwell strike, to tie the game at 7-7.

The Hornets had to travel just the 34 yards as Macon kicked the ball out-of-bounds twice on the kickoff following its touchdown, and on each kick SU elected to make the 'Jackets kick again.

On the third kick, Cedrick Delaney received the ball on his own 24 and returned it 42 yards to the R-MC 34 to set up the short drive.

Delaney had two returns for 87 yards on the night.

Now locked into a tie game, Macon drove 28 yards in nine plays, ending with a 26-yard Seth Yurgel field goal, to take a lead it would not relinquish.

In the final two minutes of the second, R-MC took advantage of a Bauserman interception on a tipped pass to complete a 35-yard drive with a 1-yard Tre Frederick TD run.

Frederick, who had 237 of the 'Jackets 264 yards rushing, scored two TDs on the evening.

Shenandoah was able to drive down to the R-MC 10 to attempt a field goal on the final play of the half, but the Derek Davis attempt hit the left upright.

The second half was scoreless until senior Malik Sims scooped up a Frederick fumble at the SU 45 and raced 55 yards for his first career touchdown.

Sims' classmate, Micheal Wroble, forced the fumble that led to the TD.

Unfortunately for the home fans, Macon answered with a five-play, 62-yard drive to extend its lead back to 11.

The final score of the evening came on a Bauserman to Qlyl Middelijn nine-yard TD pass with 1:46 remaining. SU missed the two-point conversion and was unsuccessful on the ensuing on-side kick attempt.

R-MC then ran out the clock to secure the victory.

Bauserman was 29 of 51 for 296 yards as SU gained 332 yards on 68 plays. Macon had 364 yards on 76 plays.

Shenandoah takes to the road next Saturday for a 1 p.m. ODAC contest at Emory and Henry.
