Hockey Wins in OT

WINCHESTER, Va. – The defending ODAC champion Shenandoah University field hockey team opened up its league slate Wednesday evening with a 2-1 overtime victory over visiting Randolph-Macon.

Senior Melissa DeiTos scored both of the Hornets goals, including the game-winner three minutes into the sudden victory overtime.

Shenandoah (7-4, 1-0 ODAC) dominated possession throughout the contest, taking 13 of the game's 18 shots and 12 of 16 corners, but needed to rally as Macon (4-6, 1-2) scored the initial goal of the game.

Trailing 1-0 following the 'Jackets tally in the 43rd minute, DeiTos scored off of a Maddie Lamarca goal in the 61st minute and then got the game-winner off of a Maddie Price assist 3:42 into sudden victory OT.

"Their goalie was very good on the initial shot," DeiTos said. "So we had to get her moving.

"On the goal, Maddie (Price) hit it into me and I was able to dribble around and get it past her (the goalkeeper)."

Macon goalkeeper Kelsey Stanley had eight saves in the game, including stopping a penalty stroke in the first half.

Hornets goalkeeper Isabella Morande made three saves.

SU takes to the road Saturday afternoon for a 5 p.m. ODAC contest at Roanoke.
