WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Emory and Henry outlasted Shenandoah University in an 87-82 overtime victory in the ODAC men's basketball opener for both teams Saturday afternoon.

The two teams were tied eight times and traded the lead on 17 occasions, but Shenandoah (3-2, 0-1 ODAC) held a 73-71 lead thanks to an Aaron Patterson 3-pointer with 1:42 remaining.

Unfortunately for the Hornets, it would be the squad's final points of regulation.

After the Wasps (5-0, 1-0) sandwiched a pair of missed '3's around a Shenandoah miss from beyond the arc, Colin Molden tied the game for the visitors with a layup at the 18-second mark.

This gave SU the final possession of regulation, but the Hornets were unable to get off a shot and the game went into overtime.

The Wasps won the tip in the extra session, leading to a Molden layup 15 seconds in and never trailed again.

E&H scored 12 of the initial 17 points of overtime and had a seven-point lead with eight seconds to play.

Jonah Meredith closed out the game's scoring with a layup at the five-second mark.

Kwa McDonald paced the hosts with 14 points with Christopher Chaney adding 13 and Patterson 12.

Molden had a game-high 23 points for the Wasps. John Shelor had 22 and Chase Branscomb 19 to back up Molden.

E&H had a 44-42 advantage on the boards while Shenandoah outscored the Wasps 49-14 off the bench.

The game was tied at 37-37 at the half thanks to Patterson's buzzer-beating 3-pointer.

Shenandoah hosts Washington (Md.) College Monday afternoon at 5 p.m.
