Randolph Tops Women's Hoops

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball completed its regular season Saturday with a 49-38 ODAC loss to Randolph College.

Randolph (12-13, 7-9 ODAC) dominated the third quarter in taking the win over Shenandoah (5-20, 2-14).

SU held a 13-6 lead after one and was up 11, 22-11, at the half only to see the WildCats score 19 of the 21 third quarter points to take a lead they would not relinquish.

McKenzie Mathis had the lone Hornets bucket in the stanza, finishing off a layup at 4:47.

The run continued into the fourth with Randolph scoring the initial six points of the period to extend its lead out to 12, 36-24, with 8:38 remaining.

Freshman Ashley Oakes and senior Olivia Callan hit back-to-back buckets, with Callan's a '3', to cut the deficit to seven, but Shenandoah would get no closer.

The 'Cats answered with a 6-2 run of their own and coasted home to the 11-point win.

Callan, who along with classmates Erin French and Mary Severin was recognized prior to the game, paced the hosts with nine points.

Jacqueline Hockman and Kalyn Banks had 12 and 11 for Randolph, respectively.

The loss does not change the Hornets seeding at the upcoming ODAC Tournament. SU will travel to the sixth seed, Virginia Wesleyan, on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. contest.

Lynchburg is the tournament's top seed.
