Men's Lax Rolls Past Randolph

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team opened up its ODAC slate Saturday with an 11-6 victory at Randolph College.

Shenandoah (4-2, 1-0 ODAC) scored the first 11 goals of the game in downing the WildCats (2-3, 0-1) and earning the program's first league win since downing Bridgewater 16-6 on April 16, 2014.

SU had played 20 ODAC games since that home win over the Eagles and today's victory is the first road conference triumph in program history.

Senior Tilghman Sanders got the Hornets started with his unassisted goal 2:43 into the contest and coach Tim Marshall's club led 6-0 after one before scoring three goals in the second. SU extended its lead out to 11-0 by scoring the initial two goals of third before Randolph finally got on the board with 2:16 remaining in the stanza.

That goal, an unassisted tally by Grahman Southwick, started a 6-0 run to finish the game for the WildCats.

Sanders and classmate Stephen LaTona led the Hornets to the victory with four points each – Sanders had two goals and two assists and LaTona four goals.

Midfielder Connor Bishop had two goals and an assist, sophomore Ryan Schott two goals and sophomore Michael Brooks two assists.

Orlando Levins rounded out the goal scorers with his unassisted tally midway through the first quarter.

Bishop's second goal, off of a Brooks assist at the 10:49 mark of the second, proved to be the game-winner.

"It was great to start conference play with a win," Marshall said. "We played a strong three quarters but still have much to improve on. Our three senior captains led the way for us today."

Shenandoah outshot the 'Cats 41-37 with goalkeeper Ben Judy extending that difference by making 20 saves in 58:06 of action. Michael Beutel had one save in the final 1:54.

The Hornets also had a 42-34 advantage in groundballs.

Randolph had a slight, 11-10, advantage at the 'x'. Andrew Shy had all 10 of the faceoff wins for SU.

Shenandoah is back in action on Wednesday in a 7 p.m. non-league contest at Marymount.
