Softball Swept in Doubleheader

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Host Mary Washington swept a non-league softball doubleheader from Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon with 7-3 and 5-4 victories over the Hornets.

In the opener, Mary Washington (15-5) held Shenandoah (4-8) to just three hits to cruise to the win.

Senior Lindsay Corbin was 2-for-4 for the Hornets and also scored a run.

All three of the SU runs were unearned.

Freshman Katherine Seidl (1-4) had a solid outing in the circle, scattering six hits, but a pair of Shenandoah errors led to three of the five runs she allowed being unearned.

Seidl struck out one in five innings of work.

The Hornets found themselves behind 3-0 in the nightcap after giving up three runs in the second, but were able to knot the contest at 3-3 thanks to two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Mary Washington answered with two in the sixth to provide the winning runs.

Carrie Robinson, who started game two in the circle, was 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Shenandoah offense. Corbin and catcher Karli Rorabaugh both drove in a run.

Freshman Elizabeth Everette (1-3) took the loss after allowing two unearned runs on three hits and two walks in 2.0 innings.

SU opens up ODAC play on Wednesday in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Bridgewater.
