WINCHESTER, Va. – Freshman Gerard DePhillips tossed a three-hit shutout Sunday as the No. 3/6 Hornets downed Penn St. – Altoona 10-0 in non-league baseball action.

DePhillips (4-0) needed just 87 pitches in throwing his second consecutive complete game of the season. He struck out one and did not walk a batter as he had 1-2-3 innings in the second, third, sixth and ninth and faced the minimum in the fourth and seventh.

The inning ending double plays in those two frames were two of three for the SU defense on the day.

The Florham Park, New Jersey native retired seven consecutive hitters from the first through third innings.

Shenandoah scored two runs in the first to give DePhillips all of the offense he would need and added one in the third, fourth and sixth, two in the fifth and three in the eighth to pull away.

Eight of the nine starters had at least one hit with Abel Arocho, Jake Loew and Nick Goode getting two each.

Loew hit his team-leading sixth home run on a solo shot in the eighth after driving in the second run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the first.

Tristan Baker scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the first by drawing a walk, moving to second on Arocho's single through the right side, third on a passed ball and coming home on a wild pitch.
