No. 1 Baseball Equals Best-Ever Start

HARRISONBURG, Va. – No. 1/5 Shenandoah University baseball equaled the best start in program history Wednesday with a 10-3 ODAC win at Eastern Mennonite.

Shenandoah (19-1, 5-1 ODAC) matches the 2011 team with its 19th win in 20 games; that team was also the last SU squad to be ranked No. 1 in the nation.

Coach Kevin Anderson's squad scored three runs in the first, one in the third and two more in the fourth to take a commanding lead over EMU (10-13, 1-8).

The Hornets banged out 17 hits in the win, with eight of nine starters hitting safely and four: Tristan Baker, Dan Cameron, Jake Loew and Michael Cruz, getting three hits each.

Loew finished his day 3-for-5 with 4 RBI and his league-leading eighth home run of the season. He had an RBI single in the first, an RBI groundout in the fourth and a two-run dinger to right in the eighth.

Luke Nussman had the game-winning RBI in the third as Nick Goode led off the frame with a walk, stole second and then came home on Nussman's single down the right field line.

Cameron's three hits were all doubles and Nick Goode had two RBI on a first inning double.

Michael Bugonowicz (3-0) pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief of Robert Klinchock to earn the victory. He struck out three and scattered two hits.

Klinchock gave up three runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.

Shenandoah is back in action on Saturday in a noon doubleheader versus Guilford.
