VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team completed its play at the Virginia Wesleyan Beach Blast by dropping a pair of games Saturday.

Shenandoah (3-5) fell 9-4 to Rutgers-Camden in the opener before Fredonia (N.Y.) State was an 8-0 winner in five innings in the nightcap.

In game one, Rutgers-Camden (2-1) banged out 11 hits and took advantage of four Shenandoah errors to score three unearned runs on its way to the 9-4 victory.

Designated player Casey Webb was 2 for 2 with two RBI while Lindsay Corbin had two of the Hornets eight hits and also drove in a run.

Freshman hurler Katherine Seidl (1-3) helped herself at the plate with a solo home run in the second. In the circle, she allowed seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits and two walks in 4.0 innings. Seidl struck out two before Kayla O'Connell pitched the final three innings. She struck out three and gave up two runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk.

Fredonia (3-1) held SU to just three hits in the 8-0 victory in game two. Corbin, Haley Koeninger and Makaela Dawkins had the hits for coach Marlena Kotynski.

Freshman Elizabeth Everette (1-1) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits in 2 1/3 innings to take the loss. Carrie Robinson finished up and gave up three unearned runs on three hits.

Shenandoah had three errors in the nightcap.

The Hornets open up their home slate on Tuesday at 3:30 versus Gettysburg.
