Frostburg Edges Women's Lax

WINCHESTER, Va.  – Visiting Frostburg State used a three-goal run early in the second half to key a 10-8 non-league women's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Tuesday night in the rain on the Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium turf.

Senior Brittany Arndt tied the contest at 7-7 for SU (1-3) with her unassisted goal 14 seconds into the second half, but FSU (3-3) had an answer.

Nikki Hallikas, who finished with a game-high six goals and two assists for eight points, scored two goals and set up another in the next 4:14 to put the Bobcats on top to stay.

Junior Abby Zorrilla ended the 'Cats run with a free position tally at 13:05, and scored again off of a Peyton Krevonick assist at 10:47, but the Hornets could not get the equalizer.

Hallikas scored unassisted at 6:39, pushing the advantage back to two, and FSU was able to hold on for the win.

Shenandoah outshot Frostburg, 29-27, and had a 29-17 advantage in groundballs. FSU won 14 of 24 draws and had 11 saves to the Hornets nine.

Zorrilla finished with three goals, Hemler two and Alexandra Simonson one goal and one assist.

SU is back in action on Saturday, March 18 in a 1 p.m. non-league game versus Lebanon Valley.
