SALEM, Va. – Host Roanoke College swept an ODAC softball doubleheader from Shenandoah Saturday at the Moyer Complex.
Roanoke (18-9, 7-3 ODAC) was a 1-0 winner in the opener before taking game two 7-1 over the Hornets (6-16, 2-8).
The Maroons needed extra innings to win game one as SU pitcher Katherine Seidl (3-10) allowed just two hits in the initial seven innings of the contest.
In the eighth, Roanoke scored the winning run thanks to a single that allowed the placed runner to score.
SU was held to just two hits in the game, a Haley Koeninger single in the first and a Breanne Smith infield single in the third.
Seidl struck out three and walked three.
Roanoke scored three runs in the first one and more in the second, along with three more in the fifth off of Hornets starter Carrie Robinson (2-2) to complete the sweep.
Kristen Weadon plated Shenandoah's lone run on a single in the seventh. Robinson, Weadon and Casey Webb had the Hornets hits in game two.
Robinson allowed seven runs (five earned) on eight hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings.
Shenandoah returns home on Sunday for a 1 p.m. ODAC doubleheader versus Sweet Briar. The games are also the squad's ALS benefit contests.
