VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team earned its first ODAC victory of the season with an 18-5 win at Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (3-6, 1-1 ODAC) scored the initial three goals of the game and 10 of the first 11 to pull away from VWC (1-9, 0-3).

Brittany Arndt, Alexandra Simonson and Nakona Wolfe had the three goals in that opening run with Abby Zorrilla answering the Marlins first goal with two straight at 23:31 and 19:14.

Cassie Arndt, who assisted on Zorrilla's second goal, scored the eventual game-winner at 18:20 of the first.

Zorrilla's first goal, one of six on the day for the junior, started a seven-goal spurt that gave the Hornets a 10-1 lead with 11:11 remaining.

Zorrilla capped that start with a natural hat trick.

SU took a 13-2 lead into the halftime break and coasted home to the 13-goal victory.

Twelve different women registered at least one point with Zorrilla's seven points on six goals and one assist leading the way.

Madeleine Card made five saves and Kiera Lane four with each woman playing 30 minutes.

Shenandoah outshot VWC 26-15 and had a 21-12 advantage in groundballs.

Virginia Wesleyan won 14 of 24 draws.

SU continues this road trip on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. ODAC game at Bridgewater.
