Falcons Soar Over Softball

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Messiah College rallied in game two to earn a sweep of its non-conference softball doubleheader with Shenandoah Tuesday afternoon.

The Falcons (25-4) were 7-0 winners in game one before rallying for a 7-5 win in the nightcap.

Shenandoah (10-24) held a 5-2 lead in game two thanks to four runs in the second and one more in the third only to see Messiah put up a five-spot in the fifth to steal the victory.

SU scored those four runs in the second on four hits and two MC errors; Megan Wilk, Carrie Robinson and Ashlyn Drake had RBIs in the frame thanks to a hit by pitch, a single down the left field line and a single to center, respectively.

Makaela Dawkins drove in the Hornets final run of game with a double in the third to plate Haley Koeninger. Koeninger had reached on a single down the right field line.

Elizabeth Everette (3-5) took the game two loss after allowing seven runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Katherine Seidl (4-15), who pitched game one, got the final four outs of the doubleheader.

Koeninger finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Karli Rorabaugh 2-for-3.

Messiah scored four runs in the first and three in the fourth off of Seidl in game one as Madelyn Yannetti and Jaelynn Harbold combined on a seven-hit shutout.

Breanne Smith had two of the Hornets seven hits in the contest.

Seidl allowed seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and one walk in 4.0 innings. Kayla O'Connell finished up, scattering four hits in the final two innings.

Shenandoah returns to ODAC play on Friday with a 3:00 doubleheader at Randolph-Macon.
