SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team recorded its first shutout since the 2015 season Saturday with a 19-0 non-league victory over Sweet Briar.
The shutout is the first for SU (4-10) since blanking Hollins by the same 19-0 score on March 28, 2015 and coach Lindsey Lutz club held Sweet Briar (0-7) without a shot in the contest.
It took the Hornets just 51 seconds to produce all of the offense they would need versus the Vixens as Abby Zorrilla converted an Annie McCorry feed at 29:09.
SU kept up the pressure, scoring seven goals in a 13-minute span that ended with a Nakona Wolfe to Becky Bove goal at 11:46 to make it 8-0 in favor of the visitors.
Shenandoah took an 11-0 lead into the break as it dominated possession by winning eight of the 10 draws in the half.
The second half brought more of the same, with SU taking all 15 of the shots in the half and winning six of seven draw controls.
Kiera Lane recorded her first-ever shutout without having to make a save.
Sixteen different women registered at least one point in the win with Yeda Bello and Nikki Zerna each posting two goals and two assists and Kimberly Pritchett had game-high three goals.
Shenandoah finished the game with a 15-4 advantage in groundballs.
SU is back in action on Wednesday in a 6 p.m. ODAC contest versus Randolph College.
