Generals End Baseball Win Streak

LEXINGTON, Va. – Host Washington and Lee maintained its place atop the ODAC standings with a 3-1 victory over No. 1/1 Shenandoah Wednesday afternoon.

The Generals (20-8, 11-1 ODAC) scored one run in the first and two more in the third to send SU (22-2, 7-2) to defeat for the first time in 11 contests.

SU, which rose to the top of the Collegiate Baseball/ABCA Top 30 poll on Tuesday after having topped the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 poll for the past three weeks, was seeking to surpass the 2011 team for the best start in school history.

Both squads won 22 of their first 23 games before falling to a league opponent.

The Hornets scored their lone run in the second as Luke Nussman drilled a two-out double down the left field line and scored on a Donnie Forgacs single to center.

W&L scored the game-winning and insurance runs on a Ryan Monson double in the third.

Robert Klinchock (2-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits and three walks in 2 2/3 innings.

Michael Bugonowicz pitched the final 5 1/3, allowing just two hits and two walks. He also struck out two.

W&L starter Tom Concklin (6-1) scattered five hits and one run in 7.0 innings of work. Danny Devereux got the final six outs for his fourth save of the season.

Shenandoah continues this road trip with an ODAC doubleheader Saturday at Emory and Henry.
