VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Shenandoah University earned its first-ever men's lacrosse victory over Virginia Wesleyan with a 15-8 win Saturday at Birdsong Field.

Senior Stephen LaTona scored a game-high seven goals for the Hornets (8-4, 3-2 ODAC) and in the process became the all-time leading goal scorer in program history.

LaTona now has 164 goals, surpassing Stephen Mayor '09 for the all-time lead.

LaTona got his recordbreaker on a man-up goal in the second quarter off of a Tilghman Sanders assist.

LaTona's second goal of the game, with 34 seconds to play in the first quarter and also off of a Sanders assist, gave SU the lead for good in the contest.

This goal gave coach Tim Marshall's club a 3-2 lead and started a 5-1 run for the Hornets to complete the first half.

After VWC (2-8, 0-4) scored the initial goal of the second half, SU put the game away by scoring the next seven goals of the contest.

This gave the Hornets a 14-4 lead with 10 minutes to play and allowed Marshall's club to coast home to its program record-breaking third ODAC win.

"It is always great to get conference wins," Marshall said. "We had a slow start but settled in during the second quarter and were able to go on a big run to put the game out of reach. This team continues to battle every game."

SU outshot the Marlins 52-27, was 15-of-25 at the faceoff 'x' and scooped up 35 of the game's 56 groundballs.

Sanders led the way with two goals and six assists for eight points with LaTona adding seven goals.

Shenandoah continues ODAC play on Wednesday night with a 7 p.m. game at Roanoke.
