Women's Lax Drops Heartbreaker

WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Lynchburg College held on for an 8-7 ODAC women's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

After Shenandoah (3-8, 1-3 ODAC) took a 3-2 lead on an Abby Zorrilla free position goal with 16:13 to play in the first, Lynchburg (7-4, 3-2) answered with the game's next five goals.

Senior Brittany Arndt ended Lynchburg's run with an unassisted goal at 19:24 of the second, and scored again at 14:57, but could not completely dig her club out of the four-goal deficit.

SU was able to cut that deficit to one goal on two occasions, the last with 7:21 to play following an Annie McCorry free position goal, but could not get the equalizer.

Following that McCorry tally, Lynchburg held Shenandoah to just one shot (by Zorrilla) and forced three turnovers.

LC outshot its hosts 28-21 and had 11-6 and 21-19 advantages in draw controls and groundballs, respectively.

Shenandoah goalkeeper Kiera Lane had 11 saves.

Arndt led the offense with three goals with McCorry, Zorrilla, Anna Baxter and Jordyn Miller all scoring once.

SU is on the road Wednesday evening in a 7 p.m. ODAC contest at Randolph-Macon.
