Hockey Dominates Blazers

FREDERICK, Md. – It was all Shenandoah Friday afternoon as the field hockey team dominated Hood College in a 10-0 non-league road victory.

Maddie Lamarca tallied the opening goal for the Hornets (1-0) just 1:44 in and SU would coast from there over the Blazers (0-1).

Taylor Hayes and Melissa DeiTos both had two goals in the first half with Maddie Baker scoring twice in the second half for coach Ashley Smeltzer-Kraft.

Megan Stevens also had a pair of goals, scoring at 26:26 of the first and 40:10 in the second.

Seven different women found their way onto the scoresheet; DeiTos and Hayes each had two goals and an assist for five points.

Morgan Payne tallied a game-high three assists for the victors.

Shenandoah took all 35 of the game's shots and had a 21-0 advantage in penalty corners.

Goalkeepers Jenna Rampale and Isabella Morande did not have to make a save to share the shutout.

"It was a great start to the season with contributions from every person on the team," Smeltzer-Kraft said.

SU opens up its home slate on Sunday with a 1:00 game versus Washington and Jefferson.
