ARLINGTON, Va. – The Shenandoah University volleyball team split a non-league tri-match Saturday at Marymount.
Shenandoah (5-9) opened with a 3-1 loss to host Marymount before defeating Goucher by the same score in the nightcap.
Marymount (6-6) was a 25-22, 24-26, 25-14, 25-8 winner in the opener. Against Goucher (3-9), the Hornets were 25-13, 28-26, 19-25, 25-20 victors.
In that nightcap, Kaitlyn Kelley had a team-high 11 kills with Caylin Harris adding nine and Torie Gettier eight.
Megan Hillyard had 12 of the squad's 28 assists. Hannah Lien added seven. Defensively, Nicole Shannon had 32 digs and Kelley 10.
Shenandoah knotted the MU match at 1-1 thanks to a 28-26 victory in the second set only to see the Saints answer with wins at 14 and 8 in the third and fourth sets, respectively, to earn the victory.
The Saints hit .327 over those final two sets, including a match-high .400 (10 kills against 2 errors in 20 attempts) in the fourth to key the win.
Harris had a match-high 11 kills for Coach Jaime Terenzi with Lien adding nine and Emily Cheatwood six.
Hillyard had 21 assists and Emily Veach 14 running the offense. Shannon was again the story defensively with 31 digs.
SU continues out-of-conference play by hosting Gettysburg Wednesday at 7 p.m.
