Randolph Tops Men's Hoops

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Host Randolph College earned its first ODAC men's basketball victory of the season Saturday afternoon with a 75-54 win over Shenandoah University.

The WildCats (4-11, 1-5 ODAC) scored 19 of the game's first 29 points and led wire-to-wire versus Shenandoah (7-8, 2-4).

The win also allows the 'Cats to split the season series between the two programs.

Randolph drained 13 3-pointers in the win and shot 38 percent (24-for-64) to 31 percent (18-of-59) for the Hornets.

After Aaron Patterson brought the Hornets to within 10, 29-19, following a 3-pointer at the 5:47 mark of the first, the hosts scored 10 of the game's next 11 points to expand the lead out to a half-high 19 points with 2:12 remaining.

Avery White had Shenandoah's lone point during this run by making 1-of-2 from the line at the 2:28 mark.

In the second half, SU was able to cut the deficit in half thanks to an 11-3 run to start the stanza, but Randolph had an answer.

The 'Cats scored the next five points of the game to stretch its lead back out to 13 points and kept that advantage in double digits for the remainder of the contest.

Shenandoah ended the game by scoring seven of the final eight points of the contest.

Seth Myers had eight points off the bench to lead the Hornets with Jonah Meredith adding seven.

Jalyn Jarrett had a team-high nine rebounds to help SU to a 44-42 edge on the glass.

Sammy Hooper had 21 points, Brian Smith 19 and Ryan Fields 13 for the hosts.

The SU men return home on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest versus Eastern Mennonite.
