LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team completed the first half of its ODAC slate Saturday afternoon with a 90-76 loss at Lynchburg College.
Lynchburg (9-8, 3-5 ODAC) shot a sizzling 57 percent (20-of-35) from the field in the first half and 52 percent for the game in downing their fellow Hornets for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
After Christopher Chaney tied the game at 20-20 on a 3-pointer at the 12:57 mark of the first, LC reeled off 16 of the game's next 20 points in a span of 6:39 to take the lead permanently. That 16-4 run was the basis of a 31-17 half-closing run that ended up clinching the contest.
The two teams each scored 39 points in the second half.
In the second, Shenandoah (8-9, 3-5) was able to cut its deficit to eight, 79-71, following a Jalyn Jarrett 3-point play with 3:57 remaining, but could get no closer.
Lynchburg closed out the contest on an 11-5 run to provide the final margin of victory.
Chaney paced the visitors with 18 points off the bench with Jonah Meredith adding 13.
Connor Schroeder had 32 for LC.
Shenandoah owned advantages in paint points, 40-36; points off turnovers, 20-10; and bench points, 45-26; but could not overcome the 52 percent (33-of-64) shooting performance from the hosts.
The SU men return home to play their final game in Shingleton Gymnasium on Wednesday in a 7 p.m. ODAC contest versus Bridgewater.
