ASHLAND, Va. – Host Randolph-Macon kept its ODAC men's basketball record perfect on the season with an 80-66 victory over Shenandoah Wednesday evening.
The Yellow Jackets (9-3, 3-0 ODAC) extended a three-point halftime lead out to the 14-point final margin as they held Shenandoah to 29 percent (10-of-35) shooting over the final 20 minutes.
SU (6-6, 1-2) trailed by just three, 40-37, at the break after making 49 percent (16-of-33) of its shots in the opening stanza.
The two teams traded the lead 12 times in the first half, the last when Luke Neeley gave the hosts a 38-37 lead with 33 seconds remaining.
Macon, thanks to a 9-2 run to start the second, led for the remainder of the contest.
Sophomore Christopher Chaney snapped that string on a layup at 14:17, but the Hornets would get no closer than five points the rest of the way.
R-MC shot 52 percent (15-of-29) in the second half to secure its 16th win in 19 lifetime meeting with the Hornets.
Senior Kwa McDonald led the visitors with 15 points while classmates Jonah Meredith and Aaron Patterson had 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Patterson's production came off the bench.
Shenandoah, on the strength of eight Derrick Perry rebounds and seven from Meredith, had a 43-39 advantage on the glass.
The Shenandoah men return home on Saturday for a 2 p.m. ODAC contest versus Hampden-Sydney.
