Women's Soccer Falls to Bridgewater

WINCHESTER, Va. - Regionally ranked Bridgewater College defeated Shenandoah University 4-1 in ODAC women's soccer action Wednesday night.

BC (14-2-1, 7-1-1 ODAC) scored late in the first half and again in the early second before the Hornets (9-8, 5-4) cut the deficit back to one with a goal in the 58th minute. Bridgewater score two more times in the second half to maintain its lead.

58′ | Kaitlyn Carter found Junior Alison Spaziani with space and Spaziani's shot from 20 yards out went hit the top left corner to cut the Eagles' lead to one.

43′ | Cyan Coates vollied the ball in off of a Hannah Randolph corner kick.

47′ | Hannah Randolph serviced a corner kick for the Eagles, Hunter Collier headed the ball past SU defense to bring the score to 2-0.

47′ | Hunter Collier's first shot hit the post, she collected the loose ball and buried the ball in the back of the net to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead.

47′ | Bailey Kratz created her own scoring opportunity, receiving the ball at midfield she beat the SU back line and took the ball in 40 yards before chipping her shot over Hannah Bateman's head.

The Hornets host Roanoke College this Saturday, October 27 at 2 p.m. Prior to the match, the women's soccer program will celebrate its four seniors: Rebecca Collimore, Dornesha Cottoms, Shannen de Leon, and Jordan Riser at 1:45 p.m.

MATCH NOTES

  • SU and BC split 30 shots.

  • Bridgewater doubled up SU on corner kicks 8-4.

  • Emily Yergin recorded a team high four shots, Abby Alexa and Alison Spaziani added three a piece.

  • Hunter Collier recorded a match high eight shots for the Eagles.

  • Shenandoah keepers made six saves on the night, Emilie Smith had two in 50 minutes of action, Bateman added four in her 40 minutes. The team also made a save.

  • Sydney Davis recorded five saves for the visitors.

  • The Hornets are now 5-7 against Bridgewater since first meeting in 2004.
