Bridgewater Rallies Past Football

BC Shuts Out Hornets in Second Half

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Host Bridgewater College held Shenandoah University scoreless over the final 39 minutes of the game Saturday to rally for a 28-20 ODAC football win Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (3-5, 1-4 ODAC) led 20-0 following a 63-yard Hayden Bauserman-to-Ethan Bigbee touchdown pass at the 9:32 mark of the second, but saw Bridgewater (3-4, 2-3) score one touchdown in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth to rally for the win.

IN DEPTH

Shenandoah needed just 84 seconds to score the first touchdown of the game, taking advantage of a BC fumble on the opening kickoff to drive 36 yards in just four plays to make the score 6-0.

Junior Mario Wisdom, who missed the last two games, took it the final 27 yards on a scamper up the middle.

Bauserman, who finished 30-of-55 for 373 yards, threw the first of two touchdown passes on the day when he hit Brant Butler on 4th-and-2 from the Eagles 16.

After picking off Eagles quarterback Jay Scroggins, the Hornets took that 20-0 lead when Bauserman found Bigbee wide open for the 63-yard score.

Bridgewater got itself on the board with a strip-sack of Bauserman late in the second quarter before scoring at the 5:03 and :40 second marks in the third.

The first drive, 14-plays, 86-yards, was extended by a 4th down roughing the passer penalty that gave BC a first down at the Hornets 5. The defense came up with stops on the first three downs before Scroggins found Trey Stephens with a 4-yard TD pass.

Stephens had the last score of the game as well, taking a Scroggins swing pass 42-yards to give Bridgewater the eight-point lead.

QUOTABLE

"It was a frustrating day," Hornets head coach Scott Yoder said. "We missed some opportunities early that came back to haunt us."

Shenandoah missed an extra point for the second straight week and after successfully executing a fake punt in the second quarter, failed to get any points out of the drive.

SU hosts Guilford on Saturday in a 1 p.m. Senior Day contest.
