ARLINGTON, Va. - Host Marymount University handed the Shenandoah University women's basketball team its first loss of the 2018-19 season with a 56-31 non-league victory Tuesday evening.
Marymount (3-2) scored the initial 16 points of the contest and never looked back versus the Hornets (3-1). Freshman Sierra St. Cyr scored Shenandoah's first bucket of the game seven minutes into the game.
THE RUNDOWN
1st Quarter
The Saints dominated the first quarter, outscoring SU 18-4.
2nd Quarter
SU posted a five-point run midway through the stanza and the defense held Marymount to just seven points through the second. MU led 25-11 at the end of the first.
3rd Quarter
MU nearly doubled up on the SU offensive effort, extending the lead to as many as 21 following a 13-7 run. SU was able to cut the deficit back down to 16 points near the end of the third.
4th Quarter
The Saints owned 43-25 advantage heading into the final stanza and scored 13 of the game's final 19 points to provide the final margin.

"We didn't have a great night offensively," Head Coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft said. "As we go forward, tonight's game will prepare us better going into conference play. We played very well on the defensive end against a strong Marymount team; we held the Saints under 60 points with eight steals and nine blocked shots on the night so that is something to be proud of."

- Ashley Stone led SU in scoring with nine points. St. Cyr added seven coming off the bench.
- Jordan Sondrol grabbed six rebounds, St. Cyr and Ragan Johnson added five each.
