WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah women's basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak Wednesday night with a 59-51 non-league victory over Goucher College.
Shenandoah (4-4) scored the first eight points of the night and never relinquished the lead over the Gophers (3-4). The Hornets began the second quarter with a 14-4 run, turning a 3-point lead into a 13-point advantage.
THE RUNDOWN
1st Quarter
SU started the game with an 8-0 run, holding the Gophers scoreless for the first four minutes of the game. The Hornets had a 12-point lead through the middle of the quarter before GC went on a 9-point run of its own to bring the score to 14-11.
2nd Quarter
Shenandoah outscored Goucher 19-8 in the second; and had a 14-point, 33-19, lead at the break. The Hornets shot 57 percent for the quarter.
3rd Quarter
The two teams traded scores in the quarter with Shenandoah owning a 16-point lead heading into the final stanza.
4th Quarter
Goucher made a comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring the SU reserves 20-12. The Shenandoah bench scored 30 points for the Hornets in the contest.

"I am happy to get in the win column tonight," head coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft said. "It's always great when we can balance out minutes and scoring efforts. We have a quick turn around here and are going to get back after it tomorrow."
