WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Christopher Newport University scored the opening four goals of the game on its way to a 15-10 non-league women's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Tuesday afternoon.

The Captains (2-1) scored those four goals in the initial 10:21 of the contest to take a lead they would not relinquish over Shenandoah (1-2).

The Hornets rebounded with three of the game's next four goals, but Christopher Newport had an answer.

CNU ended the first half on a 4-1 run, taking a 9-4 lead into the break.

The two teams would split 12 second half goals, allowing the Captains first half advantage to stand as the winning margin.

CNU held at least a four-goal lead throughout the second stanza.

Senior Annie McCorry paced SU with three goals and one assist for four points with Cassie Arndt, Alyson Bittinger and Jordyn Miller all scoring two goals.

Bittinger also had one assist.

Christopher Newport outshot the Hornets 31-26 and won 16-of-26 draw controls, while SU held a 14-13 advantage in groundballs. Shenandoah also took 17 of the 29 shots in the second half.
