WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team earned its second straight non-league doubleheader split Saturday with a 9-1 game two win over Mary Washington.
Mary Washington (8-10) was a 3-1 winner over Shenandoah in the opener before the Hornets (9-7) won game two in five innings.
Sophomore Elizabeth Everette (4-0) tossed a complete game four-hitter in the nightcap. She allowed the one run on four hits and did not walk a batter.
The Hornets offense supported Everette with three runs in the first, two in the fourth and four in the fifth to end the game early due to the NCAA mercy rule.
Allie Schey and Morgan Henley both had three hits with Henley and Maryann Hollen driving in three runs each. Two of Henley's hits were doubles.
Megan Wilk was 2-for-3 and led off the final inning with a solo home run.
Hollen had the walk-off hit with a bases loaded single through the left side.
Sammy Amateau and Autumn Beasley both had two hits in the opener, but it was not enough as UMW scored three runs on three hits in the third to provide itself with enough offense to win.
Katherine Seidl (4-4) allowed the three runs on eight hits and two walks in the complete game showing.
Sierra Beaty drove in the Hornets lone run with a two-out single up the middle in the first.
Shenandoah is back on the diamond on Wednesday in its ODAC opener versus Bridgewater.
