Naill Drives Home Win for Baseball

WINCHESTER, Va. – The No. 13/30 Shenandoah University baseball team completed its week Sunday with a 14-1 non-league win over Gallaudet University.

Shenandoah (9-4) scored two runs in the first and one more in the second before breaking the game open with a 10-spot in the fifth.

SU sent 14 men to the plate in that frame with eight getting hits and seven driving in runs.

Robert Marcelle, who finished the day 3-for-4, had two hits in the inning with a pair of singles to left. His second single drove in a run.

Jamie Naill had a two-run double to right center and Henry Delavergne a two-run double down the right field line. The two-run double was the second of the game for Naill – he drove in the victors initial two runs with a two-out double to right in the first.

The Hornets banged out 14 hits in the game with all nine starters hitting safely.

Leadoff man Tristan Baker was 3-for-5 with four RBI. After starting with an RBI single in the second, he had a two-run single to center in the fifth and an RBI single to right in the sixth.

Delavergne was 2-for-2 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Sophomore Gerard DePhillips (1-1) scattered six hits and the one unearned run in 6.0 innings of work. He walked two and struck out four.

Hampton Thomas, Tyler Ritenour and Jonathan Dance each worked an inning in relief.

Quintan Polito (0-2) took the loss for Gallaudet (3-12-1). He allowed 10 runs (nine earned) on eight hits and six walks in 4 1/3 innings of work.

Shenandoah is right back at it on Monday with a 3:30 ODAC game at Bridgewater.
