GREENSBORO, N.C. – Host Guilford College used a strong second quarter to key a 10-4 ODAC men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon.
Leading 2-1 after scoring the final goal of the first quarter, Guilford (8-2, 2-0 ODAC) scored all four goals of the second to take a commanding lead over SU (3-6, 0-3).
Eric Sawyer snapped the scoreless streak for the Hornets with his unassisted goal 51 seconds into the third. The goal ignited a 3-1 run for Shenandoah to start the second half, but the Quakers had an answer.
After Sawyer set up Kyle Morien at 5:44 of the third to make it 7-4 in favor of the hosts, GC scored the final two goals of the third and the only goal of the fourth to pull away for the win.
Guilford had a 42-29 edge in shots and 28-21 in groundballs while SU won 12-of-18 at the faceoff 'x'.
Jason Simpson had 11 saves in the losing effort.
Michael Brooks and Orlando Levins had the Hornets other two goals.
The men are off until traveling to the Hill City next Saturday to take on Randolph College in a 2:00 ODAC contest.
