Softball Splits at Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va.  – Visiting Shenandoah University earned its first ODAC softball victory of the season with a doubleheader split at Lynchburg College Tuesday afternoon.

Shenandoah (10-10, 1-3 ODAC) was a 4-3 victor in game one before Lynchburg (15-7, 1-3) took a 14-0, five-inning win in the nightcap.

Trailing 3-2 heading into the seventh inning of game one, SU scored two runs on five hits in its final at-bat to rally for the triumph over LC.

Freshman Maryann Hollen, who had a two-run home run in the third, delivered the game-winning hit with a one-out double to left to score pinch runner Makela Dawkins and left fielder Autumn Beasley.

Dawkins ran for Sammy Amateau, who led off the SU seventh with a single to left. After Morgan Henley sacrificed Amateau to second, Dawkins entered as the pinch runner and moved 60 feet from home plate on Beasley's double to center.

Hollen's home run, which traveled approximately 315 feet, was her fifth of the year.

Sophomore Katherine Seidl (5-5) got the first two outs in the ninth before LC put a pair of runners on with singles to shortstop and right field. She then induced a flyout to center to end the contest.

Seidl allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out one.

Beasley, Hollen, Amateau and Allie Schey all had two hits for coach Marlena Kotynski in the win.

Lynchburg scored three runs in the first, five in the second and six in the third to take a commanding lead in the nightcap.

Henley had the visitors only hit in the contest, a two-out single to center in the first.

Elizabeth Everette (4-2) took the loss. She gave up seven runs (five earned) on nine hits and four walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Shenandoah continues this ODAC road trip with a Friday doubleheader at Emory and Henry.
